Elemental Workshop Miss Dreamer

Slugging the Elementals

Good evening Scapers! It's that time again to bring in a few new site updates and here's what we have for you tonight... *drum roll* First we take you on a strange journey to the Ardougne fishing platform in order to assist the fishermen there that are in a heap of trouble. The platform has become invaded by mind-controlling sea slugs! Dare yourself to climb aboard and rescue the fishermen in the Sea Slug Quest. In the second guide this week, we will switch gears from fishing to mining, smithing, and crafting. Discover a secret workshop in Seers' Village where you will learn to craft a mystical Elemental shield and become more in tune with the elements in Elemental Workshop I. A great thanks to Schmidty102 for these amazingly well written guides. Well done Schmidty!

While viewing the site homepage you may also notice that the number of news posts listed have dramatically lowered recently. As the end of June draws near, Agent and I thought it best to remove the news posts from January to March from the homepage to make room for more recent posts. You can still view these articles as well as many others in the News Archives page. That's all we've got for now here at the Scape. Much more is on the way come next week so please stay tuned for more fun and many more updates. Keep on scapin' everyone and have a nice night! :thumb:

Monk's Friend Quest

With thanks to Schmidty102, we have a new quest uploaded. In Monk's Friend, you will help Brother Omad to retrieve a stolen blanket. What a despicable person to steal a child's warm blanket. After you climb down the hidden latter and grab the blanket, go party with the monks. It looks like Brother Cedric got started early, so help sober him up first and then party down. Thanks again Schmidty!

Fletching, News links, and Jagex Twitter

*Cue upbeat newscast music* Top story tonight - The Scape homepage has new tools to offer. Atop the news articles is a section displaying an automatic feed of The Scape Updates and Runescape Updates. These feeds link to their corresponding thread here on the forums and also displays the number of replies each thread has accumulated. To separate these articles are some attractive looking buttons which link to the forums here and also Runescape.com. They add a nice touch of color to the web page while also attracting users to our forums and Runescape.

Right below these Scape feeds is a feed for the official Jagex Twitter. This feed, like the other two, displays the five most recent postings. Now you can follow Jagex right on The Scape! :D If you want to go further back, clicking the 'More' link will direct you to a page with the twenty most recent Jagex tweeds. Jagex often post interesting links so it's definitely worth checking out.

In other news tonight, The Scape has a new skill calculator to offer. This time, we strung our bows and developed a calculator for Fletching. This tool lists experiences for all the arrows, bows (cut bow/string and full), crossbows (cut stock/string, add limbs, and full), bolts, and also darts. Now you can quickly know just how many Yew longbows you'll need to make before you become a master Fletcher.

PHP

In our last story tonight, we ask that any web developer enthusiasts who would like to assist in future site projects to please contact us. We are looking for those with particular experience in PHP and/or JavaScript and be prepared to give examples of your work. Interested graphical artists should also contact us too.

That's our broadcast this evening and we hope you tune in next time. Good night!

Two New Calcs

We have two brand new experience calcs released tonight. Firstly is the Farming calculator which lists most every event in the skill. From raking weeds to picking Torstol herbs, it's all listed in the new calculator. The calculator also lists which patch each plant is grown for quick notification.

Our second calc uploaded tonight is the Smithing calculator. We have Miss Dreamer to thank for coding this one. Her work marks the longest of our calculators yet. As an addition, the Smithing calculator lists how many bars are required to smith each item and also included bars smelted on a Furnace or the Superheat spell.

As requested, all eleven of our calcs also display your current level if you're found within the Runescape highscores. Now you won't have to check the highscores or skill experience table yourself in case you don't remember.

Let us know what you think of these calcs in the update thread here.

Altars of Runescape Miss Dreamer

The Mysteries of the Rune

Do you all know what time it is? I'll give you a hint; it's not tool time and it is certainly not howdy doody time! It is time to introduce you all to The Scape's newest update! From the beginning of time, witches and wizards of all ages have created magical works of art through the exploitation of the mystical objects known as runes. It is my pleasure and privilege to bring to all of you Scapers out there a guide that explores the source of the runes from the rune and pure essences to the talismans and tiaras to the altars that are scattered all across the maps of RuneScape. A special thank you goes out to Schmidty102 and Planesrock whom, with the assistance of MrBombi, Agent F, and myself, for writing this extraordinary Runecrafting guide. A very fine job. Well done to all of our writers and contributors out there; keep 'em coming! ;) That's all we have for you all today! Keep your eyes peeled for there are plenty more updates on the way! And do not forget to always... keep on scapin'! :thumb:

April Showers Bring May Flowers

For many of us, winter is long gone and summer is just around the corner. The grass is growing but the ground is still too wet to get out the lawnmower. Many are finishing up school for the semester and preparing those wonderful trips to the beach while others are looking for summer jobs. What are your summer plans?

Here at TS, we certainly had some April showers, but the May flowers are blooming full of updates. To start the month off, we have a brand new experience calculator to commemorate this warm weather. This new one is the Herblore calc. As a special bonus, this calculator and all the others will now retrieve your experience from the Runescape highscores. As long as you are level 30 and among the top 2 million players in the skill, you appear within the Runescape highscores. Now all you have to do is input your Runescape name and click the retrieve button. Instead of typing in your current experience, the calculator will add it for you. Those who aren't quite in the highscores will still have to manually input their current experience.

The flowers will continue to bloom with site updates throughout the month. We have projected two more skill calculators, a skill guide, and will probably throw in a quest guide too, so stay tuned for the month of growth on The Scape. Discuss this update with fellow 'Scapers here.

Fishing Skill Guide

Ah, what a nice weekend I had. I grabbed my fishing rod and lure, dug up a few night crawlers, and cast out onto a pond looking for some bass. It was a splendid time indeed. Today wasn't so nice outside so I decided to code up the Fishing guide and upload it to the site. After a couple hours work, though quicker than the Cooking guide, the guide is now uploaded. Within the guide, you will find information on the whole fishing skill including a how-to in training, the tools of the trade, eight methods of training, a summary of the Fishing Trawler mini-game, a summary of and map to the Fishing Guild, eight bonus items to aid in training quicker, and an extensive list of items you might catch while you work towards that awesome Fishing achievement cape. Have at it fellow anglers, and keep on 'scapin!

DMCA

No, I'm not singing YMCA, I'm referring to the Digital Media Copyright Act of 1998. It's basically the laws of website copyright. I'm a bit worked up right now so I won't go into much details, but you can most definitely expect things soon. Basically, another Runescape fansite emailed me and told me they own the copyright to the site design The Scape uses and we cannot use it, nor the colors our site carries. I replied with a list of differences between the sites, including the most important factor of all, no content (text nor graphics) were taken from their website. The design was developed entirely by me with only the inspiration from other websites.

I asked them to discuss any further matters with me personally, but they decided not to. Instead, they filed a DMCA copyright infringement form with the web host I do business with, and under law, the web host was required to immediately take down our website. Unfortunately, this occurred over the weekend and a holiday one at that. Earlier today, I contacted the web host again to proceed with what needed to be done. That meant filing a counter DMCA forum that states I don't believe myself to have stolen anything. I couldn't believe how such a website could think we stole content from them (without evidence) or believed they could copyright a site layout. The legal personnel I talked to agreed with my assessment.

Long story short, we're right back home with a little lesson in legal matters. I hope in the future, any site willing to dispute with me try and work things out with me first before making themselves look foolish. Expect more details soon.
